Summary:
In 997 a girl named Rose dies and as she curses the world as she dies, unknowingly makes a pact with a magical and parasitic flower. A pact is a style of magic in the Drakengard universe where two souls become bound together and provide magic for each other and in exchange lose something; this can be anything from the inconsequential such as hair or something incredibly precious such as someone's identity or ability to age. Rose is brought back from the brink of death and changes her name to "Zero" as she is granted inhuman abilities and surpasses her old life.

The power of the flower is inherently violent and seeks the destruction of the world in order to keep it's promise with the dying Zero. In an attempt to stop herself from hurting anyone and control the flower, Zero attempts to commit suicide but the flower brings her back to life and creates Five other versions of Zero based off of a mixture of her own personality and women she knew as "Rose". T

he flower-born women band together and overthrow a violent and cruel government that ruled the countries in Drakengard's universe, the people see these super human women as "goddesses" and call them "intoners" because of their song based magic. In their final fight with the older government the capital city, all the Intoners but One are killed and then resurrected, causing the flower - and the resurrected Intoners - go berserk. Zero, hoping to subdue the flowers destruction, reaches out towards a gathering of doves and uses her powers to give them the ability to soothe her "sisters". Zero's intention was simply to have the doves sing to her sisters, but they take on the form of human men, influenced by Zero's own trauma-induced hypersexuality and memories of real people. This is how Dito is created and his memories and participation in the story start here. He doesn't know how he was created at this point and the flower provides him with fake memories of a past that never happened.

Shortly after, they become known as "disciples" and the Intoners believe their disciples are simply humans loyal to them they have made pacts with. Dito is assigned to the youngest Intoner, Five. After the Intoners overthrow the old corrupt government in the capital they divide the lands they freed between the five of them to govern. Five is given the "Land of Seas" and Dito accompanies her. These events are depicted in the DOD3 Novel (Japanese only, but there is a fan translation), Utahime 5 Manga and Novellas pertaining to Zero (on the websites for the game).

Before the game proper starts, Dito and Five novellas and Five's DLC take place. These depict Five and Dito going on "adventures" to placate Five's unending and inhuman appetite and obsession with new sensory experiences. The DLC's imply Dito is being sexually abused by Five and his novella outright states he is.

The Drakengard 3 game starts with Zero beginning a quest to kill all of the Intoners the flower created and then kill herself to stop the flower from causing anymore destruction through herself and the Intoners as they slowly lose control of themselves and their sanity, as shown in the DLCs. Zero meets Dito after she successfully kills Five in the Land of Sands. Zero knows that she created Dito and that he is a bird, but Dito doesn't know anything about this himself, much like the player. The rest of the game is spent accompanying Zero as she kills her false sisters.

Dito has a couple of different fates depending on what timeline the game is following that are described on his wiki page under "branches". His canonical fate, is in Branch D where he betrays Zero to join the half-sentient and rotting corpse of Five, brought back to life by the Flower's power. It's implied he finds her attractive and worth worshiping in this form. He is defeated by Zero and company. Due to using magical powers that didn't belong to him to summon a monster to help him fight Zero, the flower is unable to maintain his human form and he reverts back into a dove.

PERSONALITY:
Dito was a being created out of doves by Zero to try and keep the power of the powers of the less stable Intoners emotionally in check. Zero did not expect the doves to turn into people, but after they did wove the narrative of Intoners having devoted disciples who could summon beats for them. Dito was assigned to the youngest Intoner, Five to serve as her “disciple”. Which turned out to be an exceptionally terrible fate, even in comparison to other disciples. Five “loved” Dito, and that love was a suffocating and relentless one; a love that crushed like a mace.

From the minute he entered her life, Five saw Dito as more object than person, a prize for her good deeds and power in the form of a beautiful young man. During his time with Five, Dito's personality was a lot milder, coming off as precocious and “cheeky” like someone would expect out of a rebellious teenager or petulant child. But this was not by any form of conscious choice. In Dito's novella he explains that while he is able to throw sarcastic quips and insults, he can't do anything Five would truly object too because as her disciple, he is ultimately bound to her will. Disciples were made by the flower, but not part of it in the way Zero and the Intoners were and that made all his power and his life Five's possession. In both Dito's novella and Five's DLC Dito makes remarks about “screaming” inside and panicking as Five forces herself onto him both physically and emotionally. Dito hates Five, he says so explicitly every chance the game and novella's give him a voice to do so, but the unspoken truth is she also terrified him and he fears being under any kind of control again.

Dito's true nature first showcases itself when the opportunity to leave Five's side arrives. While still unsure of who would win, Dito stands on the sidelines but when after Zero has beaten Five to a bloody plulpy shell of herself, Dito very gleefully runs her through with his spear and mutilates her corpse as a culmination of his slow burning hatred going unchecked. Revealing that in direct contrast to the appearance of a baby faced teenage boy, Dito is a twisted person who thrives on the misery of others and even moreso on being the cause of that misery. Without Five's shackles, Dito is with fangs; choosing words carefully and arranging them in the best sequence to make the listener feel their absolute worst. Dito is observant and likes to nitpick small flaws and make flippant remarks about deep and fresh wounds, showcased especially when speaking with Cent about his failures to protect his intoner and his false bravado. He enjoys getting a rise out of others and states so plainly and with pride. He adores all things gross and rotten, and considers himself one of them.

Dito most definitely does stick around Zero because she provides him with power but in despite their downright violent and vitriolic banter with each other, Dito does seem to feel some form of loyalty towards Zero - as fleeting and fickle as it is - either for “saving” him from Five or on a subconscious level that a creation cares for it's creator. He follows her to his deaths in two routes and only defects when the concept of a utopian world, one he would actually desire to keep existing in, presents itself. While Dito will ultimately always value himself above all things, he isn't above company or alliances

Unlike the other disciples, there doesn't seem to be any inspiration for Dito's personality from Zero's life before she died and made her pact with “the flower”. As we have no idea what he was like in the short time before he became Five's disciple or any indication of what he was like as a bird, it's difficult to say if Dito was /created/ nasty or became that way during his abuse. It's very possible he already had an inclination towards sadism as an individual that was just exacerbated but it's also equally possible that, because Dito is the only one who Zero created to have suffered something even close to the abuses she had in life, that he was in part influenced by her anger and desire to destroy the world that hurt her. He is the disciple most like Zero in his outward mannerisms and speech and their biggest difference is that Dito is an unrepentant nihilist who believes that nothing matters and Zero believes it is her duty be responsible consequences of her feelings and actions, even if it means death. Zero is our heroine and special, a strong mind able to overcome even the worst.

Dito is just a bird who was made into a person.

CANON POWERS:

In appearance Dito is simply an ordinary human and for the most part he is, save for the special skills granted to him as a disciple of the superhuman intoners. Dito can take more of a beating than the ordinary human and is able to withstand being tossed around by creatures or crushed under their weight as well as having a near limitless stamina for endless combat, but is still susceptible to mortal wounds like decapitation or the puncturing of vital organs.

Working with an intoner who can wield magic created by song, Dito can summon large beast-like familiars to his aid and augment or weaken a person's physical health. On his own however, the summoning of a familiar comes at the cost of his life and he has no magical abilities. He seems to enjoy bloodshed of any kind and is a skilled lancer in his own right.

MAGIC ABILITY:
Able to grow and retract fully functional eyes on any part of his body. There isn't a hard limit on how many he can create, but they take physical energy and time to produce and maintain healthy ones (much as if they were parasites) and cannot overlap each other or grow on top of each other. So Dito's own mass and energy are the biggest factors in when and how much he can grow. "Retracting" them absorbs them back into his body, but much like if you ate a tape worm that had infested you, the energy boost he gains is minimal.

The eyes can be gauged out and function fine when removed from the body, but don't have any magical properties to protect them and are easily punctured and rendered useless. Dito can close the sockets of removed eyes, but once they've left their host they can't be reabsorbed into the body. Another drawback is that the human mind (or at least whatever Dito has that resembles it) was not built to process more than a certain amount of visual stimulus and anything much more than one extra pair of eyes is mentally overwhelming to process.
ANY WEAPONS/MAGICAL ITEMS?:  An ordinary spear by the name of  "Sins of the Fallen". It stands about a head taller than him. The weapon story attached to it implies that it was somehow part of a research project to summon angels, but nothing but the story of the project lives on with the spear.
ANY PETS?: Wet bag of worms.
